[00:02:22] Speaker B: There's a lot of hangovers being nursed this morning. Kitty. It's still early.
[00:02:25] Speaker C: Hey, Joe, you think Chester and Doc will be back tomorrow?
[00:02:30] Speaker B: I should be.
[00:02:31] Speaker C: It's been almost a week. Why's it taking him so long?
[00:02:34] Speaker B: Doc was going to stay three days to be sure his patient would be all right after the operation.
And it's further to Hays City in a buggy than is on horseback.
[00:02:45] Speaker E: Morning, Marshall. Ms. Garling.
[00:02:47] Speaker C: Joe.
[00:02:47] Speaker B: Yeah. What a beat. Not a big pot of coffee to begin with.
[00:02:50] Speaker C: Well, I'm going to have a steak.
You can put it on now, if you will.
[00:02:53] Speaker B: You make up, too, huh?
[00:02:54] Speaker E: Yes, sir.
[00:02:57] Speaker C: Wonder what they're doing right now.
[00:02:59] Speaker B: But Chester and Doc.
[00:03:01] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:03:02] Speaker B: Well, if they left yesterday and spent the night on the prairie, they're probably breaking up camp and loading the buggy for the day's ride about now.
[00:03:08] Speaker C: You can bet Doc is complaining about the coffee Chester made this morning.
[00:03:13] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:03:14] Speaker B: I just hope they remember to pick up enough food in Hays City to last them through the trip.
[00:03:33] Speaker F: Hey, Doc, there's a water hole over there for them trees.
[00:03:37] Speaker E: Got a full bag of water right here.
[00:03:39] Speaker F: Oh, my goodness. No wonder Mr. Dillon made me come along with you. You wouldn't never survive this trip alone. This water's for us, not the horses.
[00:03:48] Speaker E: That beast of mine's too mean to deserve a drink.
[00:03:51] Speaker F: Mean or not, he's gotta have water, Doc. And mine too. Tied on back like he is. He's been eating dust all morning. Now, let's head for that water hole.

This water hole sure ain't much.

This is a terrible place to operate, but. Get a fire set, Chester. I'll get my bag out of the bunny.

[00:11:22] Speaker F: I dug me a hole with that cussed mud puddle out there and water come up clear and fine. How you feeling, Doc?

[00:11:32] Speaker F: You was kindly restless last night.
[00:11:36] Speaker E: I don't remember too much.
This feels. Feels like you dug that bullet out with a shovel. Just.
[00:11:46] Speaker F: Doc, I'm sorry, but I done just like you said.
I know it must have hurt you something awful. You pass clean out.
But you'll get your strength back now. And I'll see you get back to Dodge.
[00:11:57] Speaker E: I can't get my strength back without some food.
[00:12:00] Speaker F: Well, I can't go hunting for no meat.
Ain't no telling when that fit. Dillard's gonna try something, him and his fat partner.
But at least he can't see majors dead. Not from a distance, anyway. I drug him off into the brush and covered him up with rocks.
[00:12:15] Speaker E: Just what I want you to get out of here. I may not live anyway. There's no use you sitting around waiting to get shot by those two.

[00:12:28] Speaker F: I understand, but you're wasting your breath.
[00:12:32] Speaker E: I was afraid so, Doc.
[00:12:34] Speaker F: I think I seen an animal beyond them trees.

Got some good soup here for you, Doc.

[00:13:09] Speaker F: Well, I started out with a hunk of that old renegade steer I seen in them trees out there. I got some more of them roasting on fire, too.
I just chunked a piece in this.
[00:13:19] Speaker D: Pot, boiled it up good.
[00:13:20] Speaker F: Then I put in some sheep sorrel and wild onions to kindly flavor it a little.
Here, let me help you.
Now, that ain't so bad, is it? That's what you've been meaning. It'll give you strength.

[00:17:44] Speaker F: I gave you a piece of meat that was more than you deserved.

[00:17:50] Speaker F: I wouldn't complain if I was you. It might just be the last meal you ever eat.

Nage didn't shoot himself by accident. I know that. When I first rode in here, Pit shot him.

He thought Nage was dead till you ran.

[00:21:37] Speaker B: You look mighty comfortable to me. Just have been feeding you good.
[00:21:41] Speaker E: That's been the worst part of it, Matt. Just wait till you taste the meat he's been using, huh?
[00:21:46] Speaker B: Where'd you find any meat around here, Jess?

But Mr. Doane, what about that Wolfer?
Do you think it's worth the trouble of jailing him?

[00:23:21] Speaker A: Do you see speed laws and other regulations as restrictive? Unfortunately, too many drivers on the road subscribe to that kind of outlook. The result is tragic. Almost 85% of all traffic accidents are caused by careless, childish driving. Our traffic laws and the people who enforce them are there to help save your life.
Gunsmoke, produced and directed in Hollywood by Norman MacDonald, stars William Conrad as Matt Dillon, U.S. marshal. The story was specially written for Gunsmoke by John Meston and adapted for radio by Frank Paris. Featured in the cast were Vic Perrin, Harry Bartel and John Danar.
